About the Event:

Please join the Yale Bulldog Summer Interns and YCL Alumni for our Annual Summer Walk. We will wander the hills and waterways around the first capital of England (Wessex, actually; cf. The Last Kingdom), lunch at a local pub, then end up at Winchester Cathedral (longest nave of any Gothic cathedral in Europe) to visit Jane Austen’s grave during the 200th anniversary of her death this year (click here for a detailed description of the walk).

In past years, this relaxing day has been a great opportunity to show the summer interns a bit of England outside the capital and to get to know some of your fellow members. It is also a good event for families (although those with very young children should look at the walk description above).

Please meet Nixi in good time at Waterloo Station at 9.30am to catch the 9.54 train to Winchester. (Journey time approx. 1 hour)

It is strongly recommended that you purchase your return ticket ahead on Trainline where the price is £26. (Trainline is a very user-friendly site, and tickets are refundable, if necessary.)

The walk will be approximately ten miles on and off road so wear suitable footwear and be prepared for the changeable British Summer time weather.

A pub lunch is at your own expense. There is also a charge for visiting Winchester Cathedral (Adults: £8; Students; £5; Children under 16: free).

We will aim to return on the 17.17 train to Waterloo.
