Dr. Sarah Churchwell 98, Professor of American Literature and Public Understanding of the Humanities at UEA, will discuss some of the history around her new book Careless People: Murder, Mayhem, and the Invention of The Great Gatsby. This book about the genesis of Gatsby actually had its own genesis at Princeton, and Sarah will talk about some of those ideas and histories, as well as the fun, and sometimes extraordinary, discoveries that she made at the F. Scott Fitzgerald archives at Princeton. These stories include the way that Firestone library actually helped solve a decades-long mystery about the role that The Great Gatsby played in ending Fitzgerald's friendship with one of the most important literary editors of the 1920s.
