About the Event:
Welcome to our first walk of 2019! This will be a lovely ramble of 6.6 miles through the ancient woods of the 6,000-acre Epping Forest. Following the Essex Oak Trail, we will head to the secluded northern parts of the forest. We will pass a deer sanctuary and uncover a little history with some Iron Age earthworks--legend says Boudicca battled the Romans here. We will then stop off at a local pub for some refreshment at the end. The walk should take about four hours and is accessible on the Tube. The terrain is undulating, uneven and challenging. There will be some walking on pavements. Please bring suitable footwear and check the weather. Also, bring some water and snacks, as we won’t get to the pub until the end of the walk about at about 3:30-4:00 pm.
