start: Meet 8:50 am at London St Pancras to catch the 9:09 am train to Broadstairs, Kent
(journey time ~1.5 hrs)

Walk along the Thanet coastline from Viking Bay to Margate

At Margate, pop in to see Seaside: Photographed and/or other exhibitions at Turner Contemporary

end: Return to London from 6:00 pm onwards
(end time depends on speed of walking, length of swim breaks, degree of sunburn, &c.)

Please note: Wear sensible solid shoes suitable for varied terrain (sand, rocks, paved footpaths).
Bring water and snacks to tide you over between beach vendors.
Don't forget your (portable) beach kit:
swimming costume, towel, sunglasses, hat, anorak (rain or...), sun cream (shine!) Children are welcome!

YCL General Admission: The walk is free, but registration is required Transportation (rail from London St Pancras - Broadstairs, then from Margate - London St Pancras costs £13.60 advance each way; Oyster cards are not valid), lunch, and refreshments along the way are at your own expense.

About the Event:

This is a relaxed coastal ramble atop and below the 20- to 30-metre-high cliffsides from Broadstairs to Margate, Kent. Our 'swimming walk' will pass through seaside resorts, secluded coves, and coastal emplacements, and will end at the Turner Contemporary art gallery in Margate: see more details here.

The walk is roughly 6 km long, normally a two-hour straight shot, but on this day with leisurely allowance for lunch at a local pub and the occasional dip. Come join fellow Yalies for an escape from London to hit the beach! As usual, check the forecast and wear sensible walking shoes.
